Carmen Sandiego Gets Interactive Netflix Special

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Netflix!

Carmen Sandiego will be getting an interactive, choose-your-own-adventure Netflix special on March 10th. Netflix tested the concept of interactive films with Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and they’re looking to revitalize the Carmen Sandiego franchise with this interactive special. One playthrough of Carmen Sandiego: To Steal or Not To Steal will take around 30 minutes according to Netflix, but fans can try multiple options to see everything the story has to offer. The streaming platform is $12.99 per month, giving viewers access to the new Carmen title, among hundreds of other shows and movies.

The Carmen Sandiego franchise has historically been about education games that teach gamers about certain parts of the world while solving mysteries along the way. The mystery solving aspect is likely to continue with To Steal or Not To Steal but it’s currently unknown how the travel and culture aspects will transition to the Netflix special. The storied series has won over 125 awards and accolades and we’d like to see this interactive adventure continue the quality assurance of the franchise.

In the streaming special, Carmen apparently has to steal for the Villains International League of Evil who captured her crew, Ivy and Zack. VILE threatens to turn them into becoming its operatives if Carmen doesn’t comply with their demands but gamers will guide Carmen from clue to clue and ensure that doesn’t happen. There will be a number of options presented on the screen for Netflix viewers to choose between, each with its own narrative. The interactive adventure will change depending on the choices Carmen Sandiego fans make along the way.
