PS5 to Feature Console Exclusives at Launch

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier Says Launch Titles Will Be PS5 Exclusive

While we know that the PS5 is set to launch during the holidays later this year, there hasn’t been much information provided in the way of launch titles. And while Sony remains cagey on the subject, Jason Schreier of the Kotaku’s Splitscreen Podcast has stated he believes the PS5 launch titles will be exclusive to Sony’s latest console.

PlayStation 5 Backwards Compatibility

“I’ve heard some of the PS5 launch titles”, Schreier said. “I won’t say them yet as I probably will want to some kind of report on that stuff for the future. But those will be on PS5 only.” Jason also went on to talk about how (to no one’s surprise) the upcoming installment to the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be available on both consoles, as well as the vast majority of third-party releases.

After a dominant generation, it’s no surprise that Sony would want to stand on its own as it enters the new era. An adage in business is if you’re number one, you don’t acknowledge the competition, and it seems Sony feels they are firmly in the driver’s seat for the 2020 holiday season.

Schreier also commented on his take of the upcoming Xbox Series X launch title plans. He said, “I haven’t heard anything about Xbox first-party games, but I’m sure their stuff is going to be as usual on as much stuff as possible. They already said that Halo Infinite is going to be cross-gen. So, Microsoft, I’m sure will be a lot less about exclusives.”

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out over the coming months.  We can’t wait to see which titles will be announced for both consoles.  We’ve already covered a fantastic interview on the upcoming PS5 exclusive Godfall, as well as coming up with a list of the most anticipated games of 2020.
