Godfall Creative Director Talks Working With the PS5

It’s All About That Beautiful SSD, You See

Thursday’s Game Awards saw gobs of announcements dispensed among the populace. There were even some actual awards handed out at various points! Apparently Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the Game of The Year? Among the many sweet reveals was Godfall, a looter/slasher/haberdasher coming to the PS5. Godfall creative director Keith Lee also opened up about the game in an interview with Playstation Lifestyle. Here are some of the highlights!

Godfall is being published by Gearbox, which somehow ensures that this game will be loaded with pure, uncut loot. Proper truckloads of it, really. It seems that the sword ‘n hoard focus still allows for ranged combat, though it comes at more of a resource cost than melee. Lee listed Monster Hunter, Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive books, Joe Abercrombie’s First Law series, and Issac Asimov’s Foundation novels as major influences on the game. Genre fiction enthusiasts among our readers will recognize this as a Very Good Thing indeed.

As for the game’s status as a PS5 launch title, it seems the prospect of the system’s honkin’ SSD was just too powerful to ignore. Lee stated that the PS5 “offers a new level of detail for each individual object as well as seamless loading of our [expansive] world.” As we’ve been hearing, it seems that this generation will focus on powerful performance rather than jaw-dropping graphics. Other points of interest include a distinct three-player co-op focus and an extremely flexible class system. Godfall will be launching alongside the PS5 sometime in late 2020.
