Age of Empires III Definitive Edition Getting a Beta

Age of Empires III Definitive Edition Getting Beta Next Month

Tantalus Media has confirmed that Age of Empires III Definitive Edition will be getting a beta in February. Members of the Insiders Programme were apparently notified that there will be multiple Beta sessions which will commence early next month. While the initial tests are for Insiders, more fans of Age of Empires will gain access to an open beta in March. The beta will be available on Steam and the Microsoft Store while the full game comes out later this year on both platforms.

Age of Empires III Definitive Edition

Our larger Age III: DE closed beta sessions will be dedicated to multiplayer, matchmaking, and the way the game feels when you play with others. We’ll be kicking off these multiplayer closed beta sessions starting in early February,” said Tantalus Media devs in the Insiders Programme forum post. “Our plan is to ramp up by first including fans of the original Age III, so the February session will include a limited number of invitations; however, we’ll be making room for more Age fans and inviting a larger audience come March.”

Apparently Age of Empires III Definitive Edition will be receiving betas exclusively for the campaign mode as well, so fans of the story driven single-player experience will get an early fix as well. Considering the main focus of the beta phases is to stress test the servers for multiplayer, we’re excited to recreate classic wars with our friends online when it releases later in the year. Age of Empires III originally released in 2005 and since then, it’s become a hit with the community just like its predecessor.
