xCloud Public Preview Available Now

Project xCloud’s Public Preview is Live in Certain Regions

Microsoft’s game streaming service, Project xCloud, has a Public Preview that’s available now in the UK, US, and Korea. Currently the streaming service is only available for Android devices in the applicable regions, leaving Apple fans playing Apple Arcade instead. Currently, only Halo 5: Guardians, Killer Instinct and Gears 5 are available through the xCloud Public Preview but these are just the beginning of many to come. The Public Preview will help Microsoft properly balance game streaming for these Android devices but there’s currently no word on when Apple devices will be able to access the service.

“Proud of the Project xCloud Team for launching the public preview – it’s an exciting time at Xbox. Invitations are rolling out now and will continue over the coming weeks,” said Phil Spencer through a Twitter post. “We’re excited for all of you to help shape the future of game streaming.” It’s nice to see Xbox coming together to encourage gamers to test their service as they roll out invites in phases because Public Preview’s such as this are what’s best for rounding out the service. Games such as Modern Warfare and Fortnite use their beta phases to polish the experience for everyone upon the official release and this is basically xCloud’s beta.

It’s impressive that a game like Gears 5 can run on Android devices as it graphically pushes the limits of the base Xbox One and produces some of the best visuals on the platform. Halo 5: Guardians was a nice continuation of Master Chief’s story but it wasn’t what we anticipated, check out our review of it here! Killer Instinct is Rare and Microsoft’s revitalized arcade fighter which is a great fit for xCloud as fighting games port to mobile quite well.

What’s the first game you’re playing on project xCloud when you get your hands on it? What’s an Xbox One exclusive you’d like to see put on the service next? Let us know in the comments below!
