Path of Exile: Blight Brings Tower Defense to the Action RPG
Grinding Gear Games recently unveiled details on Path of Exile’s upcoming expansion, Blight. In Blight, fungal growths infect the world of Wraeclast, gamers are tasked with purifying these growths but they’re protected by hordes of monsters. Players will have to build crowd controlling tower defense style tools to assist them with defeating the armies Blight brings. Blight’s tower defense elements shows enamies using blight veins and attacking anything in their path. Path of Exile: Blight will release on PC this September 6th.
The blight is pumped through fungal growths that pulsate with toxic blood from core’s that the mindless armies protect. As gamers attack the core, more monsters attack them, forcing them to create defenses to assist in combat using a weapon wheel to select which devices to build. Purge the blight that infects the land of Wraeclast to heal and restore balance to it. Each blight vein gamers defend will reward them with a chest full of new rewards, including oil, a new resource which can be used to enchant certain items.
In addition to many areas of Path of Exile being infected by the blight, the expansion adds blighted maps which contain several blight veins to defend. Side content is more easily managed now as master missions now stack for later if they aren’t run immediately. Path of Exile: Blight also includes big changes to the Saboteur, Necromancer and Assassin classes which will likely include more crowd controlling mechanics integral to tower defense games. Each class will have access to Path of Exile: Blight’s passive skill tree that can drastically alter how characters are played while diversifying their skills.
