NetherRealm Talks Mortal Kombat 11 Cross-Play and Upcoming Beta
Just last month at The Game Awards 2018 NetherRealm Studios revealed their biggest and baddest fighter yet: Mortal Kombat 11. In the last few days there’s been an onslaught of new information, like region-exclusive skins, that keeps bringing the hype levels up another level and now the developer has addressed the possibility of cross-play, as well as the upcoming beta.
During the recent press event for Mortal Kombat 11 in London, WCCFTech were able to ask Game Designer Derek Kirtzic about what the future holds for cross-play capability. Though he wasn’t willing to discuss anything in detail, he did state that it’s something NetherRealm Studios is both looking into and hoping to do at some point in the future.
Further to this, in a recently released FAQ, the developer revealed that the beta would be taking place in March 2019. At this point they’re keeping the exact dates under wraps however they did confirm which people should be able to access the beta. Here’s what NetherRealm had to say about it, “If you pre-order a physical copy of Mortal Kombat 11, you will receive a code to gain access to the beta before it begins. The code you receive will be for the same platform that you pre-ordered the game for. Please note, you will be able to redeem your beta code before the beta officially begins, but this will not allow you to download the Mortal Kombat 11 beta until it’s available in March 2019. If you pre-order a digital copy of Mortal Kombat 11, you will automatically gain access to download the Mortal Kombat 11 beta when the beta is live.”
With the recent gameplay trailer we’ve also learned that Shao Kahn is also available as a preorder bonus along with beta access. Mortal Kombat 11 is set to release on April 23rd for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. What do you think about the possibility of cross-play? When do you think the beta will take place?
