It’s estimated that streams on YouTube also doubled compared to its 2017 broadcast.

“Five years in, it’s amazing to see The Game Awards continue to grow both domestically and internationally,” said Geoff Keighley, creator/producer/host of The Game Awards. “These results further validate our focus on an all-digital, no-friction approach of sharing this show globally across more than 45 video platforms, not to mention the growing interest and passion for video games around the world.”

The Game Awards 2018 was full of exciting video game announcements including Mortal Kombat 11, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, and a tease for the next Dragon Age. PS4 exclusive God of War took home Game of the Year while Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 took Best Narrative, Best Score/Music, and Best Audio Design. There was also plenty of celebrities that showed up including Jonah Hill, Christoph Waltz, The Russo Brothers, and more.

It looks like The Game Awards is here to stay. While it may have had a rough start when it first launched in 2014, it’s grown to be something that gamers look forward to each and every year. Will 2019’s broadcast attract even more viewership? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
