Warframe Fans Know How To Act Like Real Fans
It’s been a banner week for shitty gamers bringing great shame to the community at large, but at least one thoughtful member of the Warframe community has made an effort to take care of the people who make their favorite game.
Ahead of today’s release of Warframe’s new Fortuna update, one reddit user by the handle of Spacesheepie shooped together a workplace safety poster advising against, and highlighting negative effects of crunch time, a practice that’s been highly publicized for many years regarding overworking of developers in the last few months leading up to a game’s release.
The poster is made to look like a PSA from an in-game faction called Tenno, reading “Tenno Against Crunch –Â Crunch is bad for well being. Stress can lead to many health concerns including heart disease, depression, and premature death,” and includes a link to the UK’s International Stress Management Association. The post’s comments are full of other fans stating they “can wait a week” and would prefer to have a game developed by a healthy team in a healthy work environment.
In a statement to Kotaku, Spacesheepie stated “I guess what prompted me to do it is the recent stories of crunch from Red Dead Redemption 2, Telltale Games, Rockstar, etc, I’m not sure if Digital Extremes has crunched before; one of the devs did mention they had crunched, but I don’t think it’s in the same way as other companies do, and it may be more optional. That being said, I do worry about them, whether they are working late for extended periods, and so on. Even if it’s out of love and passion of what you’re doing, you can still lose track and forget to self-care. I just wanted to let them know, whether it’s optional or not, that I and many others don’t want them to be in pain for a video game, ever.”
Here’s hoping this sort of outspoken positive reinforcement and care for the people who make our favorite games becomes more normalized than the downright embarrassing crybaby bitching and moaning that currently takes up way too much space in the community and industry alike.
