That’s Not Rad
It looks like the long-running Yakuza series won’t be making it’s way to the Switch in the near future, if ever, based on a statement from the series producer, Daisuke Sato.
In a recent interview with gameblog.fr (translated by Gematsu), Sato stated that the Switch is not the “ideal platform” for Yakuza games, as the player base is “used to different games” (see; Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Snipperclips). The producer did give some hope for Xbox fans though, saying “Xbox One users may be more likely to be interested in a game like Yakuza.” With Sega bringing Yakuza 0 and Kiwami to PC later this year, the series coming to Xbox doesn’t seem too far-fetched.
As much of a let-down as this may be for Switch owners over the age of 15, Nintendo is infamous for being the platform with the least amount of, or interest in, mature titles.
The most recent series entry, Yakuza 6, is selling like hotcakes, and Yakuza 0 has been a phenomenal onboarding experience for those late to the long-running franchise (myself included, I literally cannot get enough of it). Yakuza Kiwami, a full-blown remake of the series’ first game has also done well, with a remake of 2 coming next month, and 3, 4, and 5 currently in development.
Yakuza 0 and Kiwami are currently available for PS4.
