Game of the Year 2017 Awards – The Worst Trend in Video Games

COGconnected’s Best of 2017 Awards – Worst Trend

Video games are known for employing a variety of methods pulling you in to increase loyalty and keep you addicted to their game. Way back when, studio’s realized they were able to create more content for an existing game that could be added on, a feature that would cost less than a new game but expand on an existing one. These were expansion packs – a simple method of getting much more out of your favorite game. Sometimes it might only be an extra half hour of play, in some cases, it was literally doubling the size of the original game for a fraction of the cost. This is an example of a groundbreaking and highly successful trend, but like all good things, there was a sinister dark side which lead to a very particular trend we’ve all grown to know and loathe.
