Bloober Team has found its niche with psychological horror games, developing Observer, the Layers of Fears games, and Blair Witch in recent memory. It should come as no surprise that the team is dipping into the well once again, this time as an Xbox Series X console exclusive. Players take on the role of Marianne, a medium who can travel into the spirit realm, resulting in interesting puzzle elements and psychic abilities. Those looking for a spooky time in the new year have no need to look further.
Cyber Shadow – Switch – Jan 26
Cyber Shadow is a side-scrolling action-platforming title that features an 8-bit graphical style. Yep, the game instantly hit our retro nostalgia itch and watching a trailer will validate that feeling as well. Players will take the role of a cyborg ninja looking to rescue his clan from synthetic enemies that are harvesting them. The game may look retro, but the storyline and music of the game also line up appropriately. If you have that retro itch that needs scratching, Cyber Shadow looks to combine that feeling with contemporary learnings.
Hitman 3 – PC, PS4/5, X1/SX – Jan 20
Under the care of IO Interactive, the Hitman franchise has found new life, bringing Agent 47 to the forefront of gaming yet again. With IO’s iteration of Hitman and Hitman 2 being critically acclaimed and enjoyed by fans, Hitman 3 is expected to do the same. As the series’ first foray into the new console generation, Hitman 3 will undoubtedly come with heavy expectations, though given its track record thus far, we expect them to be met.
