13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim – PS4 – Sept 22
Developed by Vanillaware (of Dragon’s Crown fame) and published by Atlus, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a relatively anticipated cross-genre game. With side-scrolling segments and an RTS styled battle system, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim allows the player to control 13 characters who interact with each other to contribute to a larger narrative. These characters are high school students in the 1980s, but did we mention aliens, mechs, and more?Â
NBA 2K21 – PC, PS4, Switch, X1 – Sept 4
The NBA has become one of the most popular sports due in part to its high level of play, personable superstars, fan interaction, and dramatic storylines. Enter the NBA 2K series, and its latest iteration, NBA 2K21. The franchise has become so successful that it is one of the reasons that competitor NBA Live has had to cancel two games in the past four years (NBA Live 17 and 20). With its interesting MyPlayer narratives and addicting MyTeam modes leading the way, NBA 2K21 has something for everyone between its various game modes.
Marvel’s Avengers – PC, PS4, X1 – Sept 4
The biggest release of the month is Marvel’s Avengers, a games-as-a-service type of game that focuses on who else? The Avengers. After an event that separates the heroes, players look to reassemble the team and find out what happened. As a games-as-a-service, additional heroes and content will be free after launch, with paid content to sustain the game over time. Having the opportunity to learn from many other games-as-a-service styled games, we are looking forward to seeing how Crystal Dynamics will improve on the formula.
