3. Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series – July 8
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile for the PS1 and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil for the PS2 are probably both in my top 10 platformers of all time. They’re phenomenal games. The original has been available as a PSOne Classic on the PS3, and was remade for the Wii, and physical PS1 copies still go for $600 USD! That’s a mark of quality. Klonoa 2 is even better, and has never been released post-PS2. They are both getting remade and released as Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series and even if your love of platformers is Mario-exclusive, this will be a must-own collection. It will be available for all consoles and PC.
2. Live-A-Live – July 22
Live-A-Live is one of the great Super Famicom exclusive games, that was never officially released in North America. There has been an English fan translation available as long as there been a fan translation sect of the emulation community. It’s one of my favorite JRPGs ever, and I really love the genre. Live-A-Live is being released in North America for the first time July 22, and it’s also being remade in the gorgeous HD-2D style, popularized by Octopath Traveler. In some ways, Live-A-Live is the most anticipated game in our Top 5 Video Games Arriving in July 2022. This Switch exclusive is overshadowed by another massive, Switch-exclusive JRPG this month though…
1. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – July 29
There are some of us that bought Nintendo Switch consoles, mainly on the strength of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Xenoblade Chronicles X is considered, by many, to be the main reason to hold onto their Wii U console. The Xenoblade Chronicles JRPG franchise is of such immense quality, that Nintendo got the series Developer, Monolithsoft, to create the world map for Breath of the Wild. JRPG releases don’t get much bigger than this one. The botched My Nintendo Store pre-order for the Special Edition is still not active at the time of this article’s writing, but a Xenoblade Chronicles 3-exclusive Nintendo Direct this past week announced an Expansion Pass. Past franchise quality, combined with Nintendo’s massive support, bodes very well for the #1 game in our Top 5 Video Games Arriving in July 2022.
