3. Assassin’s Creed Mirage – October 5
Assassin’s Creed is changing things up again. For a while, it was one of those franchises that got too big, and had a phoned in release every year. Then it rebooted itself with more RPG elements for the excellent Origins/ Odyssey/ Valhalla trilogy. With Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the franchise is going back to basics, with a smaller map, linear storytelling, and stealth focus, all set in 9th century Baghdad. Modern Assassin’s Creed games are a big deal, and Mirage was an easy choice for the third spot on The Top 5 Video Games Arriving in October 2023. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be available for everything except the Switch.
2. Super Mario Bros. Wonder – October 20
Super Mario Bros. Wonder looks amazing! It’s the first side-scrolling Super Mario Bros. game developed for the Switch. The New Super Mario games were good, but they lacked a magic found in the pre-Nintendo 64 Super Mario platformers. And Nintendo was banging them out pretty quickly. The development team for Super Mario Bros. Wonder was allowed to work without a deadline, and decided to focus on the aspects of “secrets and mystery” the franchise waned on since primarily moving to 3D. It’s shocking that Super Mario Bros. Wonder isn’t the #1 game on The Top 5 Video Games Arriving in October 2023. But that just shows how crazy this month is. Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be a Switch exclusive.
1. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – October 20
The #1 spot on The Top 5 Video Games Arriving in October 2023 goes to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Insomniac’s Spider-Man games have been incredible. But Spider-Man: Miles Morales felt like half the game the original Spider-Man was. Spider-Man 2 looks to team Peter and Miles in a storyline involving Venom (and hopefully Venom powers to have fun with). Calling it “2” really shows that it’s going to be a much larger game than Miles Morales was too. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be a PS5 exclusive.
