On its surface, Journey appears to be a simple, short, indie experience. While this is objectively true, the experience is one that PlayStation gamers owe to themselves to experience. Without going too in-depth into the game, Journey places the player into the role of a robed figure who must make their way to a mountain in the distance. The wordless narrative is surprisingly strong and deep, and the gameplay features are deeper than you might think. In our review, we state that “Journey is a beautiful game, inside and out, and it pushes the boundaries of what games can do.”

FromSoftware games achieved mainstream contemporary popularity with multiplatform release, Dark Souls. Having previously worked with PlayStation with predecessor Demon’s Souls, the two companies once again teamed up for Bloodborne. Featuring the same challenging gameplay loop the developer had begun to become known for, Bloodborne eases up the challenge a tiny bit with its player-friendly health recovery system. With a deeply intriguing world, lore, and still challenging gameplay, Bloodborne became an instant hit among the PlayStation faithful. While the difficulty level (which is unchangeable) may not be for everyone, we noted in our review that “this nightmare is challenging, scary, and easily one of the best games [we’ve] ever played.”

Not only did Marvel’s Spider-Man cash in on the recent Marvel hype, but the game is an all-time great. In fact, our title for the review is literally “The Best Superhero Game Ever”. From its amazing city-traversing abilities (who needs fast travel?), to separating itself from previous Spider-Man stories, to its strong photo mode (which helped spread awareness of the game), Spider-Man is pretty much everything one could ask for in a superhero game, let alone a Spider-Man game. In our review, we noted that “The web-slinging is brilliant, the combat is deceptively deep and diverse, and there are a million things to do.”
4. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End – PS4 – May 10, 2016

While Uncharted 2 was just a few months off of making this list, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is no slouch when representing the franchise on this list. Marketed as the final title staring series hero Nathan Drake, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is aptly titled. The title refines gameplay elements from previous titles, makes necessary adjustments, and ties up the story of Nathan Drake in a fitting manner. In our review, we noted that “what it all comes down to is that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is a masterpiece and a fitting end to one of the best franchises that you will ever have the joy of playing.”
