The Three Best and Worst Games of November 2020

The Worst

Bright Memory

Our worst-reviewed game of the month, Bright Memory initially appeared to look promising with a beautiful trailer, but that actually turned out to be Bright Memory Infinite, which is a fleshed-out version of this title. While the game has some nice visuals, screen tearing and control issues mar the FPS which is an incredibly short game at under an hour. In our review, we stated that “beyond being nothing more than an appetizer, it’s hard to recommend this release.”

Godfall

As the first game revealed as a PS5 game, Godfall ultimately underwhelmed, despite being an alright game. As a looter-slasher, a few similar games come to mind, and Godfall appeared to be in good company. Unfortunately despite having a decent combat system and impressive visuals, the shallow story, repetitive gameplay loop, and abundance of bugs at launch ruined an otherwise okay experience. In our review, we concluded that “what might have been a decent launch title may not seem like it years from now.”

Floor 13: Deep State

Floor 13: Deep State is a work-simulation game in the vein of Papers, Please!, but in this title, you run a spy agency. On paper, that sounds pretty cool, but not in execution. Much like Godfall above, Floor 13: Deep State has its moments in the sun, especially with its immersion and storytelling. Unfortunately, a frustrating UI and unnecessary animations hurt Floor 13: Deep State deeply. In the review, our reviewer stated that as he got “deeper into the story and as the cases get more and more complex, all these UI issues just ground [his] enjoyment down to nothing.”
