Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is the only game in The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from June 2022 that is a port of a recent release. It’s essentially a re-skin of the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm games, but telling the tale of the first season and movie of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. The problem with this idea is that the Ultimate Ninja Storm games were made to cinematically retell the 700+ episode Naruto story. Demon Slayer only has 26 episodes and a film to cover, and has a fraction of the content a 3D fighting game needs to justify its existence. Our reviewer doubted that “even the most devoted Demon Slayer fans will spend much time with it”, and suggested renting it instead.
Diablo Immortal

Our reviewer had low expectations for Diablo Immortal. Then when they started playing, they wanted to love it so badly. Kind of the same way the game wants your money so badly. The free-to-play model fails the Diablo franchise completely. Just don’t make these games. A paid remake of the original Diablo with these production values would have been much more welcome. Maybe there’s someone out there who loves free-to-play games. If you do, play this one. For all the BS that goes along with that model, Diablo Immortal is the worst-scoring game in The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from June 2022. Our reviewer described the in-app purchases as “predatory”, which is a wonderful, smile-inducing way of describing this industry evil.
Zorro The Chronicles

Turns out that the Zorro videogame nobody ask for was pretty bland. While the game did have some charming animation, the gameplay itself was bland and repetitive. It’s the exact kind of cash-in a big studio would request to be done as quickly and cheaply as possible. The game based on the Zorro cartoon nobody watched has all the originality of a Barbie game. Our reviewer approached the game as a fan of the franchise, and still found “it’s worth waiting for another outing”. Come on Mr. Banderas, you’re her only hope!
