The Bad
Dragon Quest Treasures

The Dragon Quest elements in Dragon Quest Treasures are excellent. The world, graphics, and music wreak of quality after decades of mainlines games. It just has a really boring gameplay loop. It’s all about gaining treasure, but the rewards aren’t substantial. Everything is in service of collecting aesthetic stuff. After a few hours, there’s no driving force to continue playing. Our reviewer concluded that “Treasures has a lot of good building blocks, but they don’t add up to much.” Maybe a future sequel can capitalize on the fun, yet shallow gameplay.
Kukoos: Lost Pets

Kukoos: Lost Pets is a 3D platformer that harkens back to classic PlayStation franchises like Spyro and Jak and Daxter. It’s pretty fun, but it has no camera control and has buggy audio. Its major problem is that it’s incredibly short, and has no incentives to extend its short duration. Our reviewer noted that “A few extra features would have gone a long way to build on the game’s foundation”. But Kukoos: Lost Pets doesn’t have any extra features.
RWBY: Arrowfell

RWBY is a 2D action platformer that takes place between volumes 7 and 8 of the anime webseries. It’s made by WayForward, who have some great action platform titles, mainly the Shantae series. Unlike Shantae, RWBY: Arrowfell is straightforward, and is all about combat. The combat isn’t very interesting though, and it’s occasionally very frustrating. Our reviewer found “The format of the game just does not lend itself to the [RWBY] series.” It’s not the best showcase of WayForward’s strengths either.
