4 – Left 4 Dead 2
Valve knows how to make an exciting first person shooter and Left 4 Dead 2 proves it. L4D2 was a success from its hectic co-operative gameplay. The zombies were fast and there were many varieties of them, it was often a mad dash to a safe house with friends dying along the way. The zombies varied from vomiting bloaters to charging hulks — oh, and lets not forget the witch, if you hear crying walk the other way or become victim to the witches one hit downs. Each level is structured like you’re playing through a movie with parts divided into acts until the finale which often meant being completely overrun by undead. It was a nice touch at the end when you’re making a break for the extraction zone and when your friends die along the way they appear as deceased during the end credits — this is where you ‘politely’ tease your friends that they didn’t have the chops to survive. 3 – Telltale’s The Walking Dead
Telltale came in with an interactive story game about Clementine, a girl trying to find her parents amidst a walker infested Atlanta. She meets an ex convict named Luke who vows to protect her at all costs. The major draw of this game was the incredible story telling that really tugged at the heart strings. You would find yourself meeting characters who were more than often hostile and depending on your choice of dialogue dictated how your interaction would end. The Walking Dead put you in a position to make a life or death choice for a character and the weight of these decisions are felt throughout each episode. The success of The Walking Dead spawned more of titles in the same format for Borderlands and Game of Thrones. Click on thru to page five to see the top two zombie games in our countdown…
