COG: The art style for Songs of Conquest is a fascinating blend of the classic HoMM games with pixel-art graphics, and an eye-catching field of depth reminiscent of Octopath Traveler. How did the idea for the games graphical style and unique presentation come about? Will this unique field of depth play a part in combat with new mechanics?
Lavapotion: We actually started with pure 2D pixel art and this new style kind of grew from that after doing prototypes. The art style itself will most likely not affect the gameplay in terms of mechanics.
COG: Is this a game you intend to support as a live service with constant content updates and additions, are there plans depending on the games success to include DLC packs for additional factions/missions/features much like the expansion packs we saw in the HoMM days, or is the intent to let the game speak for itself with occasional updates for bugs and QOL but otherwise let it be?
Lavapotion: Yes, we’d love to support this game with new content (of all forms) after release. Potentially DLC, but also a lot of content in terms of free updates. We have designs for more factions that we’d love to get in.
COG: Are there other projects Lavapotion have planned once Songs of Conquest has launched?
Lavapotion: Sure, we have more ideas, but nothing planned. At the moment, we are fully focused on Songs of Conquest up until launch. Afterwards we are planning to update the game with more content.Â
COG: How similar will combat be to say Heroes of Might and Magic 3 with armies lined up across a hex-grid field with minor obstructions in the way?
Lavapotion: Combat is something we are working on at the moment. Can’t say very much about it, but it will be similar with many new features to it.
COG: Is there anything else you would like to say either about Lavapotion or Songs of Conquest that you would like our readers to know?Â
Lavapotion: We are very happy with the support we have gotten from our community so far – and we are excited to show more of the game in the future!
