E3 2019: Xbox Briefing – The Best, The Worst, and the Cringe-worthy

Microsoft just delivered their 2019 Xbox E3 Briefing and overall, it was actually pretty damn good! We got some tasty tidbits on the future of Xbox with the unveiling of Project Scarlett, we have a boatload of great games coming to us over the next year – many of which will be available on Xbox Game Pass – and we got Keanu Reeves. We’re going to break down this year’s Xbox E3 Briefing into three categories; the best, the worst, and the most cringe-worthy moments.

Gears of War 5

The Best

Here is a list of the best moments from today’s Xbox Briefing.

Project Scarlett

Of course, we’ll start off with the future of Xbox gaming with the reveal of Project Scarlett. While there are still so many details left to learn, we did hear some pretty impressive statistics on this new hardware. We know that it’ll feature a specially designed solid state drive (SSD) that will allow the system to operate 40 times faster than current consoles. Hardware accelerated ray tracing is included. It’s 8k capable. And it’s launching Holiday 2020 with our next “Best” item…

Halo Infinite

We knew Halo Infinite, the follow-up to Halo Guardians was coming, but today we were treated with a cool “game engine footage” trailer that helped set the tone for the upcoming Master Chief adventure. We didn’t see any gameplay, but now we have something to look forward to at E3 2020!

New Game Studio: Double Fine

Double Fine Productions Inc. is now a part of Microsoft Studios. This is a huge win for Microsoft as Double Fine is home to many fascinating games such as Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, and a handful of remastered classics such as Full Throttle Remastered and Day of the Tentacle Remastered. We also saw a trailer of the upcoming Psychonauts 2 and it looks as wild as we had hoped!

Microsoft Flight Simulator

Dare I say, but Microsoft Flight Simulator was probably the most visually impressive title showed during Microsoft’s press conference. The sheer scope of the game which seemingly allows you to explore the entire globe was just incredible. This one was definitely a pleasant surprise.

12 Minutes

A brand new game published by Annapurna Interactive where you are stuck in a 12-minute time loop, replaying the same events over and over while trying to uncover the truth. It’s not an entirely original concept – we’ve all seen Groundhog Day – but it still looks like it could be a brilliant game.
