2016’s Top 10 Most Disappointing Games – The Only Top 10 You Don’t Want to Take #1 In

3 – Mighty No. 9

After waiting years for another Mega Man game, it seemed that fans were finally getting their wish when Mighty No. 9 was announced. As far as fans were concerned, Mighty No. 9 was expected to be the successor to the Mega Man games that never came until this year. Following a huge $3.8 million Kickstarter campaign, this 2D platformer seemed well on its way to becoming a great game. Sadly, following multiple delays, Mighty No. 9 released to poor reviews that called for more inspiration in nearly every aspect of the game. This game really missed the mark, leaving many fans feeling disheartened.

2 – Street Fighter V

Following the many different versions of Street Fighter over the years fans were calling for something new and exciting. After being promised that Street Fighter V would be one of the best yet, the game was released in a completely unfinished state leaving many scratching their heads in utter disbelief. At launch, players had an unpolished game with a minimal amount of content, so minimal in fact that players couldn’t even play against AI. Since the initial launch there have been multiple updates that have added loads of content to the game, however ultimately this just doesn’t quite make up for the sorry state the game was in at the beginning.

1 – No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky is quite obviously the most disappointing game of the year, considering that it seemed to have all of the problems the other games on the list had and then some. No Man’s Sky was the promise that just wasn’t delivered on, causing many in the industry a lot of anger. Like many others this year, this game was eagerly anticipated by gamers around the world, all of whom had their hopes shattered when it was finally released. No Man’s Sky was completely lacking gameplay and content considering many features that had been promised both by PlayStation and Sean Murray were nowhere to be found. Fans were promised great things, only to receive a shell of the expected game at launch. Without the hype, it is likely that No Man’s Sky would not have been quite a huge letdown. Months after release there was a massive patch that made the game 10 times better, however, nothing can quite erase the disappointment of the initial release of No Man’s Sky.

In a year of many great games, it is also important to look at which ones were the most disappointing, allowing producers and developers of the industry the opportunity to learn from their own mistakes, as well as others. Hopefully, in 2017 we won’t see so many of the same problems! One thing is certain, we don’t want to see any more unfinished game or huge day one patches.

What do you think? Are there any games that didn’t quite make the list that you felt should have?
