The Big 5 for July 2016; This is a Thin Month
We’re back once again with our list of the biggest upcoming games of the month. Last month was a strong ‘Big 5’ as we featured not only five big games, but also a couple of pretty deserving indie titles in the Indie Spotlight. Last month’s highlights included Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 7 Days to Die, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, The Technomancer, and Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. The featured indie games of the month were Hard Reset Redux and Mighty No. 9. While not every game was as amazing as we’d hoped (we’re looking at you Mighty) it was still a fairly solid month to look forward to at the end of May. Here at the beginning of July the pickings are much slimmer.
July is always a pretty bleak month when it comes to gaming and we don’t always see much improvement when it comes to August either. This August has a couple of big games that people are waiting for but on the whole, it’s always the same old story for the months of summer. The big games are held to September and beyond as we make the huge push to the holiday season where our wallets are bled dry with more games than we can count. Still, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any games at all! We do our best to come up with five games you can look forward to this month. Here we go with the July 2016 Big 5!
Monster Hunter Generations – Capcom – July 15 (3DS)
The Monster Hunter franchise has been going strong for years now and the newest entry in the franchise, Monster Hunter Generations released back in November 2015 in Japan, sees its North American debut on July 15. We recently previewed the game and came away pretty impressed at how Capcom has not only made the series more accessible to newcomers but introduced some fun new mechanics to the game as well. One of the biggest new mechanics is the ability to play as a Felyne, characters that up until now were only available as companions. For those long summer road trips, this 3DS game should have you covered.
Furi – The Game Bakers – July 5 (PS4/PC)
Furi is a highly stylized, balls to the wall, hard as hell, all boss battle epic. We managed to get our hands on the game at E3 a few weeks ago and walked away with our palms sweaty but ultimately excited for the game’s release this coming July 5. It’s an intense, ultra-responsive game with a unique mix of fast-paced sword fighting and dual-stick shooting that is sure to test even the best gamers out there. Massive bosses designed by Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki all require patience and a deft hand to defeat as you need to learn their attacks and carefully execute your attacks. We left E3 excited about the game and were even further excited when we found out that Furi was to be included in the lineup for the July PlayStation Plus. Free makes the game even more enticing!
