The 3 Best and 3 Worst Games From October 2017

The Worst

Inmates

Inmates is a psychological horror adventure solely developed by Davit Andreasyan, which is an impressive task. While the game begins very promisingly, the game soon finds itself to be unpolished, easy, and utilizing assets over and over. The puzzles within the game are very easy as well. Lastly, the title suffers from an identity crisis as there are not enough puzzles to call it a puzzler, and it is not “scary” enough to be a horror title. Despite its initial promise, Inmates is unfortunately representative of the size of the team, though there is a worthwhile story beneath the gameplay elements.

Empyre: Lords of the Sea Gates

Sometimes, some of the coolest settings imagined do not always pan out to include a great story, or in the case of video games, a great game within it. Empyre: Lords of the Sea Gates has a highly intriguing setting in which an early 20th century New York is washed away in a flood despite a technological golden age. Despite a unique setting, the game is marred by poor writing, jarring audo, and empty levels. Our very own Henry Kulick says that the title is not even close to a finished product as things are hollow and broken.

Warbanners

A turn-based, tactical strategy with role-playing elements, Warbanners sounds as awesome as it does generic. While graphics are not the only thing that matters in games, our own Jake Hill describe them as “graphics only a mother could love”. In addition to that, an unengaging story and design flaws set an otherwise promising title back. Lastly, balance issues hurt a game where gameplay is perhaps the most important aspect. The graphics are a point that could be overlooked in a game of this genre, but when the gameplay is not tight, then there is not much else to look for.
