The Worst
NBA Playgrounds

May 2017 was not all positives, and although NBA Playgrounds definitely reminds us of NBA Jam, the only boom here is NBA Playgrounds as it falls short of expectations. While the game is fun at times, an overall unbalanced gameplay, broken mechanics, and the lack of game modes render NBA Playgrounds to be a disappointment of what could have been. At this point, street basketball fans are still waiting for that one title to meet their expectations.
The Caligula Effect

As Persona 5 had just launched on the PS3 and PS4, PlayStation Vita fans of Persona 4 Golden have undoubtedly looked for a similar experience, looking to The Caligula Effect to scratch that itch. Unfortunately, the game did not meet expectations despite a rather unique battle system. Rather, the game was repetitive and overambitious in its social systems and NPC pool. Unfortunately, The Caligula Effect is an example of the term “wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle”.
Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island

As always, the three worst games are not necessarily bad games, but could involve games that fell short of expectations or even more unfortunately release in a month with no really bad games. Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island mostly falls into the latter category, though various glitches and technical issues affected the game. Furthermore, the game is notably short which was quite disappointing.
(Dis)Honorable Mention: Friday the 13th The Game
We have yet to cover Friday the 13th: The Game, but what we have read so far certainly leaves us less than impressed. Firstly, Gun Media opted to provide early access content of the title to press and media personnel rather than fulfill their promise of providing copies to their Kickstarter backers first. While that has no indication on the quality of the title, the game has also been experiencing significant launch issues. While the word is still out on the game itself, we have seen many occurrences of games not releasing to quality standards and we will not shy away from pointing them out.
