In the midst of all the E3 madness which featured some jaw dropping reveals, stunning exclusives and amazing trailers, we still managed to see a healthy dose of games released this past month. Over the course of the past 30-days we saw some Lego-sized dinosaurs, thugs looking for a ‘payday’ and the Dark Knight’s resurgence. It was anything but a forgettable month. Yet with all the good, we saw some bad, some REALLY bad games. There is no question many publishers are done with June and and can’t turn the page fast enough. So sit back and enjoy as we kick off our newest monthly feature with the best and worst games from the past month.
The Best
Heroes of the Storm (PC)

MOBA’s tend to have a bad rep with the more casual gamers. Many stay away as games like DOTA or LoL tend to be reserved for those who soak hundreds, if not thousands of hours into them. Along comes Heroes of the Storm that doesn’t alienate all those casual fans and just knows what it wants to be. It is addictive and simply a blast. Sure, it won’t replace DOTA or LoL anytime soon but if you are looking to get away from the toxicity of other MOBAs, Heroes of the Storm is a welcome addition to the genre and one of our top three games from the month of June.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited (Multi)

Console RPG fans have been waiting for this one for quite some time and for good reason, it’s fantastic. For MMORPG fans who normally play PC titles like World of Warcraft or Guild Wars 2, The Elder Scrolls Online for the PS4 and Xbox One is one of the best console experiences you will find. It is also excellent bang for the buck. For the initial purchase price, you get access to all of the game’s content, without need for any further purchases in-game. The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, despite its small issues, is an outstanding game and easily an essential title for any PS4 and Xbox One owner.
Batman: Arkham Knight (Multi)

We called it the best Batman you will ever play and that is high praise considering the previous Rocksteady Batman games were stellar. In many respects the story, and one character in particular is controversial, but it works so well with the overall story arc of the game. It’s a captivating game and hard to put down. Issues with the PC build aside, the console version of the game is magnificent and Rocksteady have unquestionably nailed nearly every aspect of the Arkham Knight experience. It’s easily our best game of the month, maybe the year.
The Worst
Wander (Multi)

There is bad and there is BAD, and in Wander’s case it’s atrocious. Embarrassing and unfinished are just two words that come to mind when we reflect on this wannabe MMO. Less is more in some cases, but in Wander there is nothing at all. We understand what Wander was trying to do, but even so, it’s both nowhere near complete and polished. More importantly it isn’t fun, at all. Wander wins our stinker of the month award, by a wide margin.
Hatred Review (PC)

This overhyped mess of a game was on everyone’s radar because of its nonsensical over-the-top violence. When the game was finally released last month it fell flat and was exposed for the piece of garbage it truly is. This subpar twin stick shooter whose only claim to fame is its Adults Only rating is nothing but a dollar store novelty gag. It’s boring, repetitive, and simply not fun. This is the best advice you will get all day: save your money and don’t buy Hatred.
NASCAR ’15 (Multi)

Granted, this game came out in May but we never sunk our teeth into it until last month. Seriously, what the hell happened to this franchise? The Nascar video game series has been in a steady nose dive for years now and it doesn’t get any better with Nascar 15. If you are looking for a racing game, do yourself a favour and buy anything other than this. Project CARS, Assetto Corsa, or even Sonic All Stars Racing would all be much better options. This horrendous driving game is one that ultimately saddens us as the Nascar brand deserves so much better.
