Let Your Villagers Do the Farming and Fighting in Outcity
Why spend your days farming when your villagers can do the hard work for you and fight off monsters after sunset? That’s the fun twist behind Outcity, an upcoming cozy farming sandbox from Brazilian studio Titan Games. Published by indie.io, the game is bringing its unusual mix of farming, village automation, and nighttime combat to Steam on December 10, 2026.
Players start with an overgrown stretch of countryside and a few basic tools. Rather than doing all the hard work themselves, they can hand those tools to villagers and let them take over. From planting and harvesting crops to fishing and construction, each villager has a role to play. They also gain experience as they work, allowing players to unlock more than 140 upgrades across farming, fishing, building, automation, and combat.
Of course, there’s more to explore than just managing a busy village. Players can expand their farmland, set up irrigation systems, decorate their homes, and venture into different biomes in search of valuable resources. Procedurally generated caves hide rare discoveries, while lakes offer opportunities to catch unusual fish. As the settlement grows, new villagers arrive, giving players more reasons to build homes and expand their little community.
But the real twist comes after sunset. Skeletons begin wandering into the settlement, and those same villagers who spent the day working in the fields must now help defend their home. Players can equip them for combat and watch their workforce turn into a line of defence before everyone gets back to farming the next morning.
Outcity’s idea of turning villagers into both hardworking employees and nighttime protectors gives the farming formula a fun new spin. If the thought of building a self-sufficient village sounds appealing, this is one Steam release worth watching.
