Control the Fate of Medieval Iberia in Crown of Hispania
If you’ve ever wanted to shape the fate of medieval Iberia, Crown of Hispania is giving you the chance to do exactly that. Regalis Studio’s ambitious grand strategy game is now available in Early Access on Steam, bringing a highly detailed recreation of the Iberian Peninsula to the genre.
Developed by a four-person team, Crown of Hispania features more than 300 hand-built provinces based on the region’s real terrain. The game takes place in the 11th century, a turbulent period when Christian kingdoms controlled much of the north while rival Muslim taifas ruled across the south.
Building an empire won’t always mean marching armies across the map. Players can expand through traditional warfare, but alliances, marriages and political manoeuvring can prove just as important. Armies can also move freely rather than being locked to province boundaries. This opens up opportunities for flanking and more flexible battlefield tactics.
There is plenty to manage away from the battlefield, too. Populations can migrate and convert, while cultures and religions react to the way you govern. Players can develop their territories, increase trade, issue decrees, and deal with the politics of their own court. Meanwhile, the Council provides missions that can add even more to the ruler’s growing list of responsibilities.
Regalis Studio has been upfront about the game’s Early Access state. Economy, technology, country management, court systems and land warfare are already in place, while cultural and religious mechanics are still being developed. The studio also plans to improve the AI based on player feedback.
For strategy fans looking for a medieval sandbox where diplomacy can matter just as much as the sword, Crown of Hispania is certainly one to keep an eye on.
