Well Dweller Launches Its Dark Fairy-Tale Adventure Across All Major Platforms

Welcome to Well Dweller

A tiny bird, a matchstick, and a seriously messed-up fairy tale have just landed. Well Dweller has officially arrived today, bringing its dark and beautifully hand-drawn Metroidvania adventure to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Developed by Kyle Thompson, the creator of Crypt Custodian and Islets, and published by Top Hat Studios, Well Dweller also launches day one on Xbox Game Pass, giving subscribers access to the full adventure on Xbox Series X/S and PC.

First unveiled during a Nintendo Indie World showcase, Well Dweller drops players into a bizarre storybook kingdom where charming characters and colorful environments hide something much darker underneath. Players step into the feathers of Glimmer, a tiny bird armed with a humble matchstick, who must take on a wicked Queen to rescue his siblings before they become part of her royal gown.

Glimmer’s journey takes him through an interconnected and decaying kingdom filled with monstrous enemies, hidden secrets, strange allies, and powerful trinkets. New abilities gradually open up previously unreachable areas, giving players plenty of reasons to explore every dark corner of the Queendom.

The game’s hand-drawn art gives its fairy-tale setting plenty of personality, while its twisted story ensures things never stay quite as wholesome as they initially appear. Between battling beasts and uncovering the kingdom’s secrets, Glimmer will also meet characters trying to survive the Queen’s bizarre reign.

Well Dweller looks like a wonderfully strange adventure that doesn’t take the usual fairy-tale route. With its creepy world, charming presentation, and Metroidvania exploration, it could be a fun one to add to your gaming list.
