Mega Cat Studios and Bits Rule Games have officially released the demo for their upcoming side-scrolling platformer Phantom Gear on Steam, giving players an early look at the action ahead of its full launch later this year.
To mark the demo’s release, the developers have also dropped a brand-new gameplay trailer, offering a closer look at the game’s combat, movement, and overall style.
The demo lets players jump into the first three stages of the game, each offering distinct gameplay twists that highlight its fast-paced blend of action and platforming. Players step into the role of Josephine, battling the dangerous Ocular Force while navigating vibrant environments filled with personality. The game pairs its fluid mechanics with colorful retro-inspired visuals and a lively chiptune soundtrack that complements every moment of gameplay.
According to Marcos Rebollo, game designer at Bits Rule Games, the demo marks an important milestone for the team. He expressed gratitude to fans who supported the project throughout development and shared excitement about finally putting the game into players’ hands.
The story follows a world shaped by a powerful ancient artifact discovered by Dr. Valentine and Engineer Agnis. While the technology born from it once promised progress, a mysterious Phantom’s return brings chaos as a hostile faction known as the Ocular Force emerges, seeking to weaponize the artifact. After a tragic attack leaves Agnis dead, her daughter Josephine takes up a powerful combat suit to fight back and protect the future.
With its demo now live, Phantom Gear is steadily building momentum ahead of release.
