Backyard Baseball Swings the Bat on PC, Mac, and Consoles on 9th July 2026

Get Ready for the Backyard Baseball

During IGN Fan Fest, Playground Productions and Mega Cat Studios revealed that Backyard Baseball will launch on PC, Mac, and modern consoles on July 9, 2026. The new installment marks the first original entry in the beloved franchise to arrive on consoles in 15 years, signaling a major return for the iconic backyard crew.

This latest chapter brings the entire gang back into the spotlight, including backyard legend Pablo Sanchez, by reimagining the series in full 3D while blending in 2D elements that preserve its nostalgic charm. Alongside the visual overhaul, the game introduces updated gameplay mechanics and expanded modes, making it the most ambitious Backyard Baseball yet.

Lindsay Barnett, CEO of Playground Productions, said the team aims to balance classic charm with modern play mechanics, delivering an experience longtime fans will recognize while welcoming new players. James Deighan, CEO and cofounder of Mega Cat Studios, echoed that sentiment, calling the franchise deeply meaningful and emphasizing the studio’s commitment to honoring its legacy while refreshing it for a new generation.

Originally released in 1997, Backyard Baseball became a defining sports title for young players, celebrated for its humor, accessible gameplay, and memorable cast. The 2026 release builds on that foundation with a completely original experience designed for today’s platforms.

Mega Cat Studios, known for titles such as Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit and God of War: Sons of Sparta, continues its partnership with Playground Productions after helping reintroduce the classic Backyard games to modern devices in 2024.
