Mystery and Danger Awaits in Obey the Insect God
Award-winning filmmaker Charles Davis and his studio Chunkle Freaky’s Movies Games have officially launched Obey the Insect God on PC, inviting players into a strange and dangerous retro-inspired adventure. Available now via Steam, the 2D action platformer draws heavy inspiration from the era of ’90s digitized fighters while delivering a surreal narrative experience.
Set within the eerie domain of the Insect God, the game challenges players to descend into a mysterious labyrinth filled with danger at every turn. The story takes cues from the Finnish epic The Kalevala, blending mythological elements with a bizarre, live-action presentation. As players venture deeper, they will encounter cryptic puzzles, hidden secrets, and increasingly powerful enemies guarding the truth behind the Insect God.
The game stands out with its digitized sprites, created using live-action footage of Charles Davis and other actors. This design choice recreates the distinct visual style of classic arcade fighters from the late ’90s. Combat plays a central role, requiring players to master precise timing, perfect blocks, and combo-based attacks to survive intense enemy encounters and challenging boss fights.
Exploration also plays a key part in the experience. With most traversal abilities available from the beginning, players can freely navigate more than two dozen interconnected zones. All while uncovering secrets at their own pace.
Obey the Insect God is now available on Steam, offering a unique mix of retro aesthetics and surreal storytelling. For players seeking something unusual, this descent into the Insect God’s lair delivers a dark and memorable journey. Also, make sure to check out the official launch trailer below.
