Games
Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Marvel’s Midnight Suns might not have been as big of a release as some of Marvel’s largest title debuts, we’re looking at you Spider-Man, but it’s still got to be on the radar of every single Marvel (or superhero) fan out there. It’s a hot take on the more supernatural side of the Marvel universe where you get to team up with some badass heroes and stop the Mother of Demons from summoning evil. What makes it different from a lot of other Marvel games out there right now is that it’s a tactical RPG. If you’re a fan of XCOM, you’ll love this. The best part though is that you’ll get to play as Blade, Ghost Rider or Scarlet Witch too. You can even make your very own Marvel character! What’s not to love?
The Quarry
For anyone who’s a fan of Until Dawn, Supermassive Games’ huge success back in 2015, picking up The Quarry is an absolute no-brainer. It’s got horror elements in abundance like jump scares, increasing tension, and chilling atmospheres that will have you on the edge of your seat. But it’s so much more. It’s a cinematic and storytelling masterpiece. You get to make game-altering decisions throughout and the music and sound design are top notch. Plus if it’s the horror aspects you’re really looking for, there’s an option to make the content extra graphic. Can you make it to the end without any of the main characters dying? There’s only one way to find out.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
Year after year the latest Call of Duty installment is the top-selling game and there’s a reason for that. The player base is amongst one of the most loyal in the gaming industry. If the gamer in your life talks about an ‘FPS’ or says ‘COD’ this is exactly what they’re talking about. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. It’s the quick games, the crisp shooting mechanics and the latest battle royale, Warzone 2.0, that are sure to make this the go-to game for the coming year. Not to mention that it’s a revamped version of a beloved classic Call of Duty title. What more could anyone want?
PGA Tour 2K23
Golfing season is pretty non-existent right now as the months get colder and that’s a damn shame for all the golf dads and sports fanatics out there. Not all hope is lost this off season though. In fact, there’s a way to stay warm while working on your perfect golf swing. That’s right, PGA Tour 2K23 is the perfect solution to all of those out there that have the golfing blues. And when else are you going to be able to play against legends like Tiger Woods? Here’s what Rhett had to say when he reviewed PGA Tour 2K23, “It’s difficult in all the right ways, satisfying, rewarding, and always entertaining.”
Stray
This was among the most anticipated titles of 2022 and it absolutely did not disappoint. It not only met expectations but crashed through them, shattering the glass ceiling. Stray won multiple awards at the Game Awards 2022 and it’s no secret why. Stray is a third-person adventure that focuses on a cat living in the cybercity underbelly, surviving against creatures that live in the shadows. It’s not only cute, but super entertaining as well. And it’s not just about a cat. There are a lot of tidbits to discover. It is worth picking up and getting lost in it this holiday season!
Horizon Forbidden West
It’s relatively rare that a sequel lives up to the hype set by the original game, movie etc. Horizon Forbidden West is an exception to the rule and builds upon the world, storyline and characters that everyone fell in love with in Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017. In fact, it’s a direct continuation of the story from the original. Aloy must restore order in the world and take on new threats in the bigger world of the forbidden west – home to even more dangerous enemies. Horizon Forbidden West is a graphical masterpiece, and it’s just a ton of fun. It’s still the flagship franchise for the PS5. Paul had this to say in his review, “It looks phenomenal and offers a sandbox of gameplay that remains just as unique as the original.”
God of War Ragnarök
God of War Ragnarök is magical. Full stop. If you love any of the past God of War games you will also, no surprise, love the latest God of War game. Do you like Norse mythology? What about a good boss battle that might take a couple times to complete? If either of those was a resounding yes then God of War Ragnarök is, without a doubt, for you. Even if neither of those are your jam, you still might fall in love with this one.
