Nintendo Switch Update Adds a Simple-But-Effective Quality of Life Feature

Nintendo Switch’s Navigation Just Got a Lot Easier

The Nintendo Switch is a great console with an even better library of games. But players only have so many hours and so much money, surely they won’t-

You bought way too many games, didn’t you? And they were all digital?

Okay, okay, that’s fine. Makes sense – after all, you wouldn’t want to lose those cartridges, and not everyone has space for a shelf full of game cases. At least there’s an easy way to sift through all the games you’ve got-

…there isn’t?

No, wait, really? It’s just the scroll bar? A single line to hold left/right on? …it’s only sorted by most-recently-played?

Oh, good. Good. Fine.

That last part isn’t a joke, by the way. It’s actually fine now. A recent Nintendo Switch update added something that solves this problem entirely.

Folders! Or to use Nintendo’s term, “Groups”. It’s a way of storing games in large bunches, so you don’t have to scroll as much (or perhaps, not at all) to find the game you actually want to play. You can group your games however you like, giving each group a name of your choice.

Here’s how Nintendo describes the feature, in a recent set of patch notes:

“Groups” feature was added to the All Software menu.

  • You can now create groups of software to help organize your software titles.
  • Making groups for different game genres, developers, or whatever you’d like to organize by may make it easier to find the application you want.
    • Up to 100 groups can be created with a max of 200 titles per group.
  • The button to proceed to the “All Software” screen is displayed only when there are 13 or more software title icons on the system.

Of course, the site also has a full guide on how to use the feature – pictures included!
