More Ubisoft
Far Cry 6 is out now! Ubisoft’s latest open-world fps introduces another tropical island for you to explore as you try to overthrow an evil dictator. It’s a familiar formula, but it sounds like it is an excellent entry if you aren’t tired of said formula.
This time, players will explore the country of Yaran. That’s Yaran, not Yharnam. I wish it were Yharnam, but alas, it is Yaran. Players will be up against the evil mastermind Antón Castillo and his teenage son Diego. Antón Castillo is played by the great Giancarlo Esposito, who is perfect for this type of role. He is the one reason I kind of want to play Far Cry 6.
To succeed against the overwhelming power of Antón’s army, players can customize their weapon loadout to match against enemy strengths. That’s always been Far Cry’s strength. When it leans into the crazy and gives players a diverse set of wild weapons and companions, and it does seem like Far Cry 6 delivers there.
Of course, this is a Ubisoft game, so that means there is a season pass, and I won’t lie, I don’t fully understand what the DLC is this time around. You will play as villains from the previous Far Cry games, including fan-favorite Vaas. Through each of the three Season Pass DLC episodes, players will delve into the minds of these infamous antagonists, uncover their backstories, battle their inner demons, and reunite with familiar faces in a brand-new gameplay experience inspired by the rogue-lite genre, in which players will have to become strong enough to survive multiple levels of the villain psyche.
What?
So you play as the villain as they literally battle their internal demons in a rogue-lite fps level system. That’s … interesting, I suppose? It is certainly different as far as DLC goes. I’m not sure how a Far Cry rogue-lite will turn out, but at least they are doing something a little different here.
Far Cry 6 is out now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
