The Outer Worlds Switch port is being handled by Virtuos Games, a Chinese company. The delay has a minor upside for fans of physical copies as the company is now releasing a cartridge copy.

“We’re delaying @OuterWorldson Nintendo Switch due to the coronavirus impacting the Virtuos team working on the port, to provide them enough time to finish development. We’ll now be releasing the physical version on cartridge. Once we have a new launch date, we’ll let you know,” said Private Division. The publisher further clarified that the Virtuos Games team is safe.

“To clarify, the team at Virtuos is ok, but their office has remained closed during this time. We’re working with the team to determine an updated development timeline, and will share more regarding a new launch date shortly.”

The announcement comes at the same time that Nintendo announced that the coronavirus has delayed production of Switch units. The coronavirus outbreak began late last year in Wuhan. The effects of the outbreak have been widespread and the gaming industry has seen its share of setbacks. Along with today’s incidents, several esports events and other gaming events have been cancelled as a result of the outbreak.
