Activision Blizzard Knows Next Call of Duty Won’t Sell Better Than the Last

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Will Remain King

Activision Blizzard has confirmed that we’ll see a new Call of Duty this year. They’ve also made it clear that they know this game won’t sell as well as last year’s Modern Warfare.

Activision Blizzard praised the remarkable sales increase of Modern Warfare over 2018’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 during an earning’s call on Tuesday. During the call, the company confirmed that a new CoD game would be dropping this year. The expected window for the game’s launch is between October 1 and December 31. The company then acknowledged that this game will not sell as well as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the reboot of the Modern Warfare series.


It has not been revealed which studio is developing the new title. The CoD games are often traded between Treyarch and Infinity Ward. Infinity Ward was responsible for Modern Warfare. Modern Warfare has generated over $1 billion USD in revenue as of December 2019 according to Activision Blizzard. The game has become the most played in the CoD franchise with over 500 million hours invested across almost 300 million multilayer matches.

Modern Warfare’s first competitive season has been extended. The new end date for the season in February 11. Season 2 will begin immediately after season 1 ends.

Call of Duty is a first-person shooter franchise. The first Call of Duty released in 2003 for PC. There are 16 games in the main franchise along with multiple spin-offs and handheld entries.
