Magic: Legends Receiving a Beta This Spring
Developers at Cryptic Studios have unveiled details about Magic: Legends, their upcoming action MMORPG based on Magic: The Gathering. Gamers will get mana-based spells and collect power to take on numerous enemies in battle while exploring the various planes in the saga. Gamers can choose between five classes, two of which are new to the franchise: the geomant and mental magician. The game will have a beta during the Spring and it’s expected to release on PS4, PC and Xbox One in 2021.
In an effort to save the Magic: Legends multiverse, gamers will have to cross several planes in the order that they choose. The multiverse is saved by cleansing each of these planes solo or with up to two other planeswalkers. Just like Diablo, unlocking new spells and gathering fragments to empower them is a large part of the appeal to Magic: Legends. The combat is real-time and choosing a hand can be difficult as spells can be stolen at random during ambushes.
The geomant channels the power of the earth to destroy his enemies at close range with devastating lava and stone attacks. He is able withstand attacks that would incapacitate other planeswalkers with his stone shield and can shake the ground beneath the feet of his foes. Geomants prefer to stick with creatures such as kavu, goblins and especially earth elementals. The mental magician specializes in cold intellect. They’re a planeswalker that focuses on psychic powers and they face enemies from a safe distance. They’re a glass cannon with powerful projectiles, telekinetic powers and the ability to nullify the most dangerous enemies with spells that turn them against their allies or puts them to sleep.
