Vince Zampella Is Going From Respawn to DICE LA
Respawn Entertainment’s CEO and co-founder, Vince Zampella, will be taking over DICE LA, renaming the studio and starting production on an unannounced title. Due to the changes, Respawn will be undergoing some leadership shifting as Stig Asmussen, director of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, will oversee the narrative branch of Respawn Entertainment. Chad Grenier will take over Apex Legends while Peter Hirschmann is working on the upcoming FPS VR title: Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. Zampella believes the rebranding of DICE LA is essential to its success moving forward. Respawn Entertainment’s latest title, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
While expressing enthusiasm for the IPs that DICE has overseen over the years, Vince Zampella said, “We will probably rebrand,” Zampella says. “We want to give it a new image. We want people to say, ‘This is a destination you can go and make new content.’ I think they’ve kind of gotten the branding that they are the support studio for DICE Stockholm. I think rebranding is important for showing people, ‘Hey! Come work here. We’re going to do some amazing things.’”He wants the studio to feel separate from other DICE studios while starting production on an unannounced title. ““Obviously with ‘Jedi’ coming out, my focus was a little more on getting that game out the door. Now that it’s done and out there, it’s, ‘OK, what’s next?’”
While EA was uncertain about the potential of single-player driven experiences, the publisher trusted in Respawn Entertainment to create a quality Star Wars title and fans quickly made it the second best selling game of November, behind only Modern Warfare. “For a small studio to do as much as I want to do, it made sense for us to join forces with EA. In talking to EA, they wanted the influence of me coming in to help shape the future of EA. The industry is changing, and we have the chance to be at the forefront of that,” said Vince Zampella. Being able to take on new challenges, like DICE L.A. falling under me now, is exciting.”
