If It Makes Sense for their Franchises, Microsoft Is Open to Multiplatform Support
During a recent Game Informer interview, Head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty expressed enthusiasm for moving more Xbox exclusives to other platforms. After acquiring studios such as Ninja Theory, Obsidian Entertainment and Playground Games, Microsoft is discussing the possibility of multiplatform support as these studios weren’t previously known for developing exclusives. With Cuphead and New Super Lucky’s Tale seeing success on the Nintendo Switch, Microsoft seems to be planning on moving more games to the Nintendo hybrid console and apparently even the PS4.
When Microsoft acquired Double Fine, Ninja Theory, etc. fans of their previous games worried that all of their titles would be Microsoft exclusive moving forward but this interview lets gamers know that might not be the case. During the interview, Matt Booty stated it isn’t a question of whether or not their exclusive games may be put on Nintendo Switch or PS4, but rather if these titles belong on the PS4 or Switch.
New Super Lucky’s Tale is a great example of Microsoft matching an exclusive franchise with a console that has a more fitting user base. Matt Booty further said “is it a kind of game where it would benefit from the network effect of being on a bunch of different platforms, or is it a game where we can best support it by putting resources and making sure that our platforms, things like xCloud and Game Pass and Xbox Live, are really leaning in to support the game?” For the full interview, check out Game Informer’s channel on YouTube.
