Following Epic Games’ Acquisition of Psyonix, Rocket League Will No Longer Feature Loot Boxes
Later this year, Epic Games and Psyonix are working together to turn the loot crate system in Rocket League into a more seamless system by showing gamers the exact items they’ll be receiving. Epic Games is lending their expertise from Fortnite to the Psyonix team officially with this announcement, allowing gamers in the future to buy what they want rather than the possibility of getting what they want. After initially taking inspiration from Fortnite’s season pass with the Rocket Pass and Rocket Pass Premium, Rocket League was able to add an interesting progression system to their game which will still remain moving forward.
The loot crates being part of the previous system will retire in favor of a system that allows gamers to buy specifically what they want, likely rotating the coolest things out of the shop now and then. As Fortnite and Rocket League both appeal to a broad audience, it’s likely what worked for Fortnite will work for Rocket League. Because Psyonix has previously been criticized for featuring loot crates in a game that children play, fans will surely receive this news positively if the Rocket Pass and Rocket Pass Premium content isn’t reduced. “Rocket Pass Premium, DLC Cars, and Esports Shop items will continue to be offered for direct purchase alongside our new system,” said the Psyonix team, assuring Rocket League fans that the existing content will proceed uninterrupted as they implement the new system. We’re wondering what will happen with all of our unopened loot crates once the change is implemented.
We’re hoping that these changes to Rocket League will get Epic some credit rather than internet threats. What do you think about the removal of loot crates?
