Fans on Twitter Were Surprised with a Glimpse of PUBG’s New Island Map
In a ‘One Year Anniversary’ video released on Twitter last night, the team behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) released a quick glimpse at the upcoming island map that was teased in the game’s roadmap. Testing is said to begin in early April.
The new map will be much smaller than the previous maps, clocking in at 4×4 km, instead of the regular map’s 8×8 km. The more recent desert map, which was released back in December with the 1.0 release of PUBG, is also 8×8, so it might be nice to have a much smaller, more condensed map to play around in.
PUBG is rivalled only by Fortnite, another battle royale shooter, and one of the main differences is in the size of the maps. Whereas PUBG’s two maps are large and sprawling, Fortnite’s map is much smaller. This allows for games to wrap up faster, and for the firefights to be more consistent; ensuring players won’t just be walking around for twenty minutes before stumbling into someone.
This idea of keeping the firefights more consistent, and the games much shorter, could give PUBG the edge over its competitor. The constant chaos of Fortnite spliced into the gameplay of PUBG seems appealing to plenty of people.
For a better look at the new island, we’ve included some screenshots from the official video. If you want to see the new map in action, skip ahead to 1:40 on the video below.
This announcement is on the shoulders of PUBG both moving to mobile, and adding new event modes to spice up the gameplay, which is starting later this week!
Are you looking forward to this new island map? Or is it too little too late for PUBG? Let us know!
