Kingdom Come Has a Game of Thrones Total Conversion Mod Coming

A Talented Mod Team Is on the Project

A Game of Thrones RPG is in the works, and it’s coming in the form of a mod for the incredibly immersive Kingdom Come: Deliverance. As you may or may not be aware, KC:D is Warhorse Studios’  open-world, true-to-history RPG; the RPG of RPGs, as we call it. Apparently, the talent behind the conversion mod for Total War: Attila will utilize the game’s assets to create a Game of Thrones RPG set in the Riverlands during the War of the Five Kings. This role-playing story will be called Seven Kingdoms.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance main

If you’re asking why a Total War modding team is moving over to an RPG IP, the reason is simple. They decided that their Game of Thrones project would work better as such. Furthermore, Kingdom Come: Deliverance utilizes better technology to meet their ends. As the team said in an FAQ, “While we were able to bring the main armies and characters from Game of Thrones into Attila: Total War, it offered very little modding support and potential for new features. For example, a campaign set in Westeros could not be created.

“Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a brand new game utilizing the powerful CryEngine. This means it’s easier to create quality assets and to render them with next-gen shaders. The open-world and story-driven aspects of the game are better suited to the Game of Thrones universe, giving us much more potential for new features and gameplay modes. Most importantly, Warhorse Studios stands behind the modding community and has been very vocal about supporting mods.”

Kingdom Come: Deliverance arrives for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 13th. In setting out to make the game, Warhorse Studios decided they would deliver the most immersive, historically accurate, and robust experience they could. Now imagine that design utilized for a Game of Thrones experience. According to the mod team, work has already begun on 3D assets, starting with weapons and armor. Furthermore, we know the mod will be “loyal to the TV show” instead of the books. That is to say, fans will be very familiar with the resulting visuals. Additionally, the Riverlands setting gives the team a lot of options for including characters.

But if you’re a Game of Thrones fan, chances are you’ll enjoy the hell out of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. As of yet, the mod has no release date, so it may definitely be worth checking out the real game at launch. If you want constant updates, however, you can follow the ModDB page here.
