The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
Chances are that the gamer you are looking to buy for has already played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. If not, this game will provide them countless hours of questing, dungeons, dragons, and pretty much whatever they want to do. Be a magician? Check. Join a thieves’ guild? Check. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition includes all of the DLC for Skyrim and allows for mods ranging from new locations, quests, magic abilities, graphical changes, and better NPCs. Although the game is multi-platform, it could be argued that the Xbox One version is superior just for the fact that the platform allows for a greater variety of mods as well as storage allocation for said mods.
Battlefield 1
Battlefield 1 is an epic, action-packed shooter set in the WWI time period. The game features awesome gunplay, horseback riding, and vehicular action. Shooter fans looking for a more hectic, large scaled shooter should look no further than Battlefield 1, where zeppelins rain from the sky and enemies come from all directions. As great as Battlefield 1’s multiplayer action is, the single player does not drag the game down in any way. A strong narrative combined with sound gameplay makes the single experience engaging and worthwhile.
Titanfall 2
If your shooter obsessed giftee would prefer a different style of shooter, Titanfall 2 has something that other shooters do not: mech-styled exoskeletons. Yes, in addition to some crazy parkour and zip-lining action, Titanfall 2 allows players to hop into giant robots to gain the upper hand in combat. Like the aforementioned Battlefield 1 as well as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Titanfall 2 really gave a strong effort in the campaign this year.
Killer Instinct Definitive Edition
Have fighting games gone out of style? If it has, certainly no one has told Killer Instinct. Fighting games have been few and far between as of late, despite having many quality titles come out in the genre. Killer Instinct on the Xbox One is known for its depth and gameplay balance. The game has released 3 seasons thus far, and all of the characters are included in the Definitive Edition, such as series mainstays Jago and Fulgore, as well as guest characters the Arbiter (of Halo fame) and General RAAM (of Gears of War fame). What better way to celebrate the holidays than to virtually beat up your guests?
Rare Replay
Rare Replay features 30 classic Rare titles from 1983 to 2008. Are all of these titles good? I wouldn’t say so. However, there are a handful of quality titles to choose from. To name a few, the Banjo series, Perfect Dark series, Viva Pinata Series, and Kameo: Elements of Power are all titles that I can attest to the quality of. Conker’s Bad Fur Day (which is not as kid friendly as it may look), Jet Force Gemini, and Killer Instinct Gold are also titles to keep an eye on. Though not all the games may be worth playing through, the content within this disc can keep players of all ages happy for a good amount of time.
