COGConnected Writers Dish On Their Experience With Homefront: The Resistance Beta

Three of COGConnected’s very own Lucas Raycevick, Cale Boudreau and Ahmed Mohamed had the chance to play the closed beta for Homefront: The Revolution. Each writer has very different opinions and backgrounds on games, so we decided to put them on the hot seat and grill them about the beta impressions so you can make the best decision on whether it’s worth your time or not.

COGConnected: What were your expectations going into Homefront: The Revolution?

Lucas Raycevick:

Being one of the few who speaks positively of the original game (Multiplayer, not Singleplayer), I entered this game with blind hope. The blindness came from the fact that this game is of a completely different structure than the first. Whereas Homefront’s campaign was very much a Call of Duty clone, The Revolution appeared to be hell-bent on selling the Resistance fighting fantasy, completely abandoning competitive multiplayer altogether”

Cale Boudreau:

“I never had the opportunity to try the original Homefront, so I had dropped all expectations going into this. The trailers did a fantastic job of reeling me into the idea of a being part of a resistance movement in a war-torn city. These kind of settings are what get me excited in video games. Also the fact some of the same team at Free Radical were behind Time Splitters which I clocked many, many hours into back in the day so I was excited on that basis alone.

Ahmed Mohamed:

“From what I have seen from the gameplay and cinematic trailers, I expected a decently polished beta alongside some stealth oriented co-operative missions in a world with environments similar to inFAMOUS: Second Son, as both have similar ‘revolution’ storylines. I also expected a good amount of weapons and tools to play around with as well as some of the customization options the developer has spoken about.”

COGConnected: What is your experience with the first person shooter genre?

Lucas Raycevick:

“I’ve played games and mods in multiple states, from Pre-Alpha to Beta. I understand needing to tweak, evolve, and integrate. I don’t believe it’s reasonable to expect a game within an unfinished state to resemble a complete product. What I look for is a diamond that only needs to be polished. Homefront: The Revolution needs far more than polish.”

Cale Boudreau:

“First person shooters are my go-to genre after RPG’s. I used to play Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II religiously, Unreal Tournament, and Half-life 2 still ranks as my favourite shooter ever made. Homefront: The Revolution reminded me of a first person shooter version of Freedom Fighters which totally drew me in, that was until I played it.”

Ahmed Mohamed:

“First person shooters are probably my favorite genre and I have played almost all FPS single player campaigns and multiplayers in the last decade. I played a bit of the last Homefront game both in its linear campaign and unique multiplayer and, while average, I enjoyed my time. Homefront: The Revolution looked like it would raise the bar for the series and turn it into a highly polished AAA experience.”
