It’s the Perfect Time to Dive Into Subnautica
Unknown Worlds has announced a limited-time Free Weekend for Subnautica, along with a major franchise-wide discount, as anticipation builds for the upcoming Subnautica 2 Early Access launch.
The Free Weekend kicks off on April 2, giving new players a chance to explore the underwater survival experience that launched the series’ global popularity. The game will be available at no cost on Steam and Epic Games Store until April 6. Console players are also included, with a Free Play Days event scheduled on Xbox from April 9 to April 12.

Alongside the free access period, players can take advantage of steep discounts across the series. On Steam, both Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero will be available at 75% off from April 2 to April 9. The same offer runs on the Epic Games Store from March 31 through April 7, while Xbox users can grab both titles at 50% off between April 2 and April 15.
Ted Gill, CEO of Unknown Worlds, encouraged newcomers to dive in and experience the franchise, noting that players who enjoy it can look forward to the next chapter arriving soon.
Looking ahead, Subnautica 2 will mark a major step forward for the series, shifting to a brand-new alien world and leveraging Unreal Engine 5 for enhanced visuals. It also introduces optional co-op for up to four players, a first for the franchise. With over 18.5 million copies sold globally and strong momentum, the sequel has already become one of the most anticipated releases of 2026.
