A Fresh Expedition Is Coming To S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
The world of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to expand in a big way, as developer GSC Game World has officially revealed Cost of Hope, the game’s first major story expansion. Scheduled to launch in Summer 2026, the DLC will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and PS5.

Cost of Hope promises a massive, nonlinear experience that adds dozens of hours of gameplay. Players will step into a fresh expedition across the Zone, encountering haunting storylines and morally complex characters. All while navigating the series’ signature atmosphere of decay, now balanced with a subtle sense of hope.
The expansion revisits the long-standing conflict between two iconic factions: Duty and Freedom. Duty still views the Zone as a dangerous anomaly that they must contain or destroy, while Freedom sees it as an opportunity to explore and harness. The fragile peace between them begins to unravel, setting the stage for a new chapter of tension and conflict.
Players will once again take control of Skif, the protagonist of the main game. The new storyline will trigger organically through a PDA signal after installing the DLC. As expected, player choices will play a crucial role, influencing events that may have far-reaching consequences beyond the Zone itself.
The expansion also introduces two new regions, including the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the mysterious Iron Forest. Each area brings new hubs, quests, and activities, alongside fresh weapons and gear to survive the Zone’s ever-present threats.
GSC Game World has confirmed that this expansion is part of a larger narrative plan. It will serve as the middle chapter in a new trilogy of story-driven content, with more details coming out soon.
