A New Chapter Awaits in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope
GSC Game World has officially announced that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope, the first major story expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, will launch on August 20, 2026. The expansion will be available for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, giving players another reason to return to the dangerous and unpredictable Zone.
Cost of Hope continues the story by placing players back in the shoes of Skif, the protagonist of the main game. This time, a mysterious PDA signal pulls him into a new chain of events that unfolds alongside the original campaign. Players can expect to explore previously unseen areas, meet new allies and hostile enemies, uncover powerful weapons, and make choices that will influence the future of the Zone.
The expansion also shines a spotlight on the long-running rivalry between Duty and Freedom. As the fragile balance between the two factions begins to collapse, tensions rise, creating new challenges and shaping the fate of the Zone in what GSC describes as a major new chapter in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. The expansion promises dozens of hours of additional gameplay and story content.
Alongside the expansion, GSC Game World will release the free Update 2.0 for all S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl owners. The update upgrades the game to a newer version of Unreal Engine 5 and introduces a wide range of gameplay improvements, new content, and other enhancements.
GSC says more details about both Cost of Hope and Update 2.0 will be revealed in the coming weeks. If you’re eager to revisit the Zone, August 20 is shaping up to be a major milestone for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 players.
