Improved PS5 DualSense Controller with Extended Battery Life Reportedly Releasing
The PS5 DualSense controller, known for its immersive haptic feedback, might see a battery boost in a new “V2” version. Listings on Best Buy’s Canadian and UK sites suggest the upgraded DualSense will offer an impressive 12-hour battery life. This is a notable improvement from the current model’s seven to eight hours which fans thought drained too quickly.
While the design remains unchanged, the enhanced battery aims to address concerns about the controller’s power consumption. The concerns come with power-demanding games like Astro’s Playroom. Best Buy’s listing also indicates that the V2 version comes with an included charging station featuring “easy click-in charging.”
Last year, Sony heavily discounted the existing DualSense controllers during promotional events, potentially to clear stock in anticipation of the V2 release. Additionally, 2023 saw the introduction of the DualSense Edge controller, featuring extra hardware but maintaining the same battery, leading to a quicker power drain.
The reported development aligns with Sony’s ongoing efforts to refine its gaming accessories. With the recent release of a slimmer PS5 console, the introduction of an upgraded DualSense controller signals a commitment to enhancing the overall gaming experience for PlayStation users.
